GlobalLink 2.5 Release Notes
These release notes are divided into the following categories:
Administration
Change detection does not start when set to "Today" and "Now."
Change detection sometimes does not start right away when set to start "Today" and "Now."
Solution/workaround: Manually generate the first change list.
(Issue #4417)
Repository names cannot begin with an underscore character (i.e., _Source).
The first character of a repository name cannot be an underscore (_). If so, GlobalLink will throw a Null Pointer Exception when users attempt to browse the repository's contents.
(Issue #2353)
Removing language pair does not remove target language settings.
If an administrator removes a language pair from a project in the Language Pairs page (mod_locales_pairs.po), the target rule, as configured in the Target Languages page (mod_targetrules.po) of the repository, remains in effect. Users will still be able to select that language when creating a submission.
Solution/workaround: After removing the language pair, delete the Target Language setting, located in the Repositories section.
(Issue #2354)
Baselining does not detect incorrect Windows2000/NT file structure in target rule.
Applicable only to projects with separate source and target repositories. If a source repository has a target rule that directs target content to a separate target repository (i.e., target::C:\\project\target), that is incorrectly configured in relation to the root directory of the target repository (i.e., C:\\project), the baselining process will not detect the error (although the error will appear in the error log file). Using the above example, GlobalLink will attempt to deliver the content to C:\\projectC:\\project\target.
It may appear to the submission service that the content has been delivered. In GlobalLink, however, the submission will retain a status of "In Translation."
(Issue #2398)
General
Date and time not adjusted for different time zone.
The dates and times shown on items in GlobalLink are set by the servers of the submission service and are not adjusted to the local time zone.
(Issue #2344)
Exception in startup window.
GlobalLink will throw a java.lang.NullPointerException in the startup window if a repository for an active submission has been deleted.
(Issue #4457)
GlobalLink does not support multiple sessions from the same browser.
You cannot run two GlobalLink sessions on separate browser windows on the same computer. Doing so may have unexpected results.
Modified submission name is not preserved after clicking page view links.
In the Current Submission project view of a submission with more than twenty content items, if you modify the submission name and then click one of the list view options links (Show 20 50 100 all rows per page) at the bottom of the page, the submission name reverts to the default (i.e., Submission 26).
Solution/workaround: Set the desired page view option before modifying the name.
(Issue #4542)
Inability to cancel old submissions when the project's Global Project Manager access code is changed.
If the Global Project Manager access code for a project is changed, active submissions cannot be canceled. If you attempt to cancel, the submission status will read "Cancelling" then "In translation." No error message will be displayed.
(Issue #2355)
General user interface
Change generation button visible to Read-Only user.
If a user with Read-Only access goes to the Change List project view of a project for which no change list has been generated, they will see the Generate New Change List button. However, because of their Read-Only access level, clicking this button does not generate a change list.
(Issue #2395)
GlobalLink does not indicate upload progress when attaching a large file as a submission instruction.
When you attach a large file as a submission instruction and click the Save button in the Submission Instruction popup), GlobalLink shows an hourglass next to the cursor, but does not indicate the progress of the upload process. If you close the popup before the upload is complete, the attachment will be cancelled.
Solution/workaround: Do not close the popup until the hourglass disappears and the attached file is listed in the popup under the File Attachment radio button.
(Issue #3711)
Using the browser Back button after choosing "Modify Existing Project" can cause user to inadvertently change project name.
If a user opens an existing project (under the Modify Existing Project in the GlobalLink Administration Home page), then uses the browser Back button to return to the GlobalLink Administration Home page, and then selects the Create New Project link, GlobalLink will return the user to the first project selected. As a result, the user may accidentally change the project name, thinking they are in a new project.
Solution/workaround: Do not use the Back and Forward buttons of the browser, as instructed in the general product documentation. Always use the navigational features in the user interface.
(Issue #2343)
Database content may not display correctly.
When viewing database content items in a project, the content in one or both of the frames in the display pane may not display correctly upon initial opening.
Solution/workaround: Right-click in the offending frame and choose "Refresh."
(Issue #5549)
User may be directed to login page after adding locale pair.
Occasionally, a user may be directed to the GlobalLink login page after clicking the Save button while adding a locale pair.
Solution/workaround: The locale pair will be added to the project in this situation. Proceed with login and project setup.
(Issue #2037)
Migration from GlobalLink 2.0.1
Items in current submission lose their target language settings.
If you upgrade from version 2.0.1 to version 2.5, content items in the current submission lose their target language settings. This is caused by a product enhancement in 2.5 that enables you to specify different target languages for each content item in the submission.
Solution/workaround: Ensure that users send their current submissions before upgrading to version 2.5. Otherwise, they will need to reset the target languages for the content items.
(Issue #4908)
Netscape 6.0
Page elements repeat in browser frame.
When opening a new page via a link (such as a user or project name), Netscape will sometimes display the new page with repeated elements. For example, the bar with the Cancel and Save command links appears at the top and bottom of the page.
Solution/workaround: This a Netscape issue with no known workaround. However, the effect is only visual and does not affect the functionality or use of the product.
(Issue #2333)
Extra blank Netscape browser window displays in Submission Instructions feature.
When attaching a file (Excel, PDF, etc.) as a submission instruction, Netscape will open an extra, blank browser window when you click on the attachment link. This is a nuisance only; neither performance nor functionality of the product is affected.
(Issue #3359)
Notifications
Change detection results in duplicate E-mail notifications.
Sometimes GlobalLink sends duplicate E-mail notifications when change detection is complete.
(Issue #4652)
Changes made to user's E-mail address are not updated in Notification list.
If you change a user's E-mail address in the Setup: User's section, you must separately update the user's E-mail address in the Notifications section of any existing projects in which that user receives notifications of any kind.
(Issue #2356)
Performance
Approval of large deliveries slows product performance.
GlobalLink performance may suffer when a user approves a large number (100-plus, depending on local configuration) of content items at the same time. Other users may also notice slower performance until GlobalLink completes the approval process.
Solution/workaround: Approve delivered items in smaller batches.
(Issue #2349)
GlobalLink may become blocked in "Sending" mode due to problems communicating with Global Project Manager server(s).
GlobalLink does not notify the user when a project's Global Project Manager server cannot be reached, so that submissions may become stuck in "sending" status for lengthy periods. This problem can happen if any Global Project Manager server with which GlobalLink communicates cannot be reached, as a result of regular polling for finished target content.
Solution/workaround: Ensure that all Global Project Manager servers are functioning and communicating properly.
(Issue #5580)
Submissions
Routing to main Browse Content page after trying to add content.
If a user attempts to add content to a submission but is routed back to the Browse Content project view, the content is in a repository the user does not have permission to access.
(Issue #2342)
TeamSite
Exception occurs when attaching file as submission instruction.
When you attach a file to a submission instruction in TeamSite, GlobalLink will sometimes throw a java.lang.NullPointerException exception.
(Issue #4050)
GlobalLink pop-up windows open in main GlobalLink pane.
When you click a link in GlobalLink that opens a popup (submission instructions, item properties, etc.) the popup sometimes will display in the main GlobalLink pane, rather than opening as a separate window. If you click the Close button, TeamSite freezes; you must log off and log back on.
(Issue #4772)
Unable to select entire repository for addition to submission.
You cannot select an entire WA/STAGING/EDITION for addition to a submission.
Solution/workaround: Select all content items in the root of that area.
